Diplomatic Club

The Diplomatic Club is an informal forum on foreign policy for Ukrainian officials, businessmen, ministers of foreign affairs, independent analysts and international journalists. At the center of open debates are global developments and foreign choces facing Ukraine and the other countries.

On 5 June 2012 was held a meeting with Steven PIFER, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine (1998 – 2000), Senior Fellow at the USA and European Center of Brookings Institution.

Topic of the event: “Ukraine: Balance among Russia, West and Democracy”

On 27 November 2012 was held a meeting of the Diplomatic Club with President of Georgia Mikheil SAAKASHVILI.

Topic of the event: “Region at the Crossroads: European Perspectives for Ukraine and Georgia.”

On 13 October 2011 was held a meeting with Ewald Nowotny, President of the National Bank of Austrian and member of the European Central Bank’s governing council.

Topic of the event: “Global Crisis: challenges and opportunities for the European Union”.

On 30 March 2010 was held a meeting with Strobe Talbott, Deputy Secretary of State, President, the Brookings Institution, and Javier Solana, NATO’s Secretary General (1995-1999) and the EU Representative for Foreign and Security Policy (1999-2009).

On 23 April 2010 was held a meeting with Štefan Fule, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy.

On 30 November 2010 was held a meeting with Guy Verhofstadt, National President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in European Parliament.

Topic of the event: “The EU: Status quo and ambitions for the future”.

On 21 December 2010 was held the concluding meeting of the Diplomatic Club, during which was made public the expert survey on foreign policy activity of Ukraine and understanding of external factors for Ukraine in 2010.

On 9 July 2010 was held a meeting with Leszek Balcerowicz, Polish economist, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and former Chairman of the National Bank of Poland.

On 15 April 2009 was held a meeting with former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski

On 18 March 2009 was held a meeting with Chrystia Freeland, one of the most influential journalists of English-language world, US Managing Editor of Financial Times.

Topic of the event: “Forecasts for the financial and economic crisis outcomes for Ukraine”.

On 4 February 2008 was held a meeting with Ali Babacan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Topic of the event: “Energy security of the Black Sea Region and cooperation between the EU and BSEC countries”.

On 16 April 2008 was held a meeting with David Merkel, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary.

Topic of the event: U.S. “Vision of bilateral relations between the U.S. and Ukraine, and regional security issues associated with the expansion of NATO”.

On 17 June 2008 was held a meeting with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General

On 16 September 2009 was held a meeting with James Mattis, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander.

On 30 September 2008 was held a meeting with participation of German leaders. Among the guests were - adviser on foreign policy Johannes Jung office of the German Bundestag, the coordinator of the Europe and Central Asia Directorate General of the European Commission Humanitarian Aid.

On 3 October 2008 was held a meeting with Nino Burdzhanadze, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament (2004-2008).

Topic of the event: “The challenges of foreign policy and security in the region and the state of development of transitional democracies”.

On 28 November 2008 was held a meeting with a group of experts under the auspices of Marek Siwiec, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

On 25 December 2008 was held the concluding meeting of the Diplomatic Club.
