“Everyone who sits here has his own independent view of what is happening in Ukraine and in the world. I would like you to be strong and decisive, to act boldly and wisely. We need a new generation of leaders. And I believe that you also are the new generation. I am sure that you will become the leaders of this free world,” he addressed Forum participants.
However, stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk the free world needs to be fought for. “There were hopes that after World War I world would be free. That did not happen. Such hope was and after World War II. People believed it will be the end of conflict, humiliation and endless war. But humanity again failed. We are facing new challenges, disasters, which we to face, analyze and solve them.”
“These are new global challenges that threaten your personal safety, your personal freedom. Terrorism, unemployment, people trafficking are gaining pandemic proportions. Even poor water quality and the catastrophic state of the environment. That is what security is for everyone in this world,” stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
He recalled the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt from his speech on the four freedoms. “The first freedom – the freedom of speech and freedom of expression. The second – freedom of religion. The third – freedom from poverty, that is unemployment and poverty. And the fourth freedom – the freedom from fear. In his inaugural speech, Roosevelt said that the main fear is fear itself,” noted Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
“So if we ponder over the question of security, the question of our future, we will be able find a way how to solve these new global challenges,” he stressed.
“It should be your agenda. You have to dedicate your life to make this world truly free so that everyone on earth is happy. This is the agenda of any true politician. This is the task for you as for the younger generation,” addressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk participants of the 1st Youth Kyiv Security Forum.
