New topic for the essay competition to participate in the 2nd Youth Kyiv Security Forum and change of the date

The Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation informs that the policy paper competition for young professionals to win a participation in the 2nd Youth Kyiv Security Forum has been amended with a new topic for essay writing: «Role of constituent elements of good governance on the way to joining the European Union». The deadline to submit essays has been extended to 23 October.

Please note that since the Forum takes place on the eve of the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, the date of the Forum has been changed. The event will take place on November 22 – 23, 2013.

The main theme  of this year Forum is:   «Good Governance: the only way towards the EU ?».

Working languages of the Forum are English, Ukrainian.


Age of participants: 20 – 35 years old.

We encourage senior students, PhD students, junior researchers, representatives of youth and civic organisations, who are interested in issues of international relations, foreign policy, international security and related subjects to participate in the competition. The participants are asked to write a brief policy paper in the form of essay.

Scope of work must be up to 4000 characters (including spaces) in English or Ukrainian. A participant can choose only one topic and write only one essay. Be sure to fill out the registration form.

The deadline to submit the essays is October 23rd, 2013. The competition results will be announced after November 1st, 2013.

The organisers will cover travel and accommodation expenses during the Forum for 35 contest’s winners.


Youth Kyiv Security Forum for Youth (KSF-Y) is an initiative of the Open Ukraine Foundation, which aims at creation of a discussion platform for young experts from different countries on important issues of international relations and foreign policy of Ukraine. The main objective of the Forum is to strengthen the role of new generation of experts, enhance their abilities to participate in policy analysis and development processes.

The Youth Forum will be made possible with the support of the Black Sea Trust of Regional Cooperation (a project of the Marshall Fund, the U.S.A.), NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, as well as in partnership with the Centre for International and European Studies at Kadir Has University (Turkey) and Co-Forum on human security issues (Switzerland).

Participation in the Forum will provide young professionals with an opportunity to discuss critical issues of human security during the international conference, and to become active participants in workshops and training sessions that will be scheduled on the agenda of KSF-Y. The participants will have a chance to communicate with leading experts, practitioners, analysts from various countries that are specialized in good governance in international relations.
