From 13 to 18 April 2013 in New York City took place another festival of Ukrainian and post-Soviet cinema KINOFEST NYC. With the support of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation Ukrainian writer and screenwriter Kateryna Babkina represented Ukraine at the film shorts section at KINOFEST NYC, and personally presented the film Evil, which was filmed based on her script.

KINOFEST NYC is the first annual film festival devoted to independent Ukrainian and post-Soviet cinema. The festival aims at presenting to the public a selection of feature and short films to evaluate the development of the cinematic potential on the territory of the former Soviet Union.

Kateryna Babkina participated in several events of the festival: presented film Evil (director Oksana Kazmina, screenwriter Kateryna Babkina) demonstrated Ukrainian short film by Yara Arts Group, and also held author readings in the Bowery Poetry Club and Brooklyn Top Roof Poetry Night.

“I am very happy that after the readings at Bowery Poetry Club and during the Brooklyn Top Roof Poetry Night increased interest of interpreters in collaborating. And now there are new translations of texts that arose from these awareness as well as the potential idea of publishing translations in the United States,” said the young writer and screenwriter Kateryna Babkina.

Supporting artists is a regular activity of Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation. As part of the program Cultural Horizons in 2012, the Foundation provided 15 travel grants to Ukrainian artists to participate in international festivals, exhibitions, competitions and accordingly to represent cultural achievements of modern Ukraine.
