Today, European countries demonstrate solidarity and unity in many issues, in particular vis-à-vis support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

Etienne de Ponsins, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine expressed this idea at the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum, established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

“As it has been already noted, there are certain shifts and changes in the organization of the EU, especially in the military aspect, and provision of ammunition. And this is indeed a radical change, compared to the philosophy stance held in Europe just a few years ago,” said the Ambassador.

Amb. Ponsins emphasized that the French standpoint has remained unchanged since the beginning of the large-scale invasion – Russia is the aggressor, Ukraine is fighting for itself, its independence and security.

According to him, France provides powerful military aid and supports Ukraine in the UN Security Council.

The Ambassador emphasized that Ukraine will definitely become a member of the European Union in future.

“Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has come a long way towards European integration and the European Union. Ukraine received a candidate status. Naturally, additional steps have to be taken, but with the start of the war the situation has changed. In future, I cannot say exactly when, Ukraine will become a member of the EU,” Etienne de Ponsins emphasized.

Noteworthy, the 15th annual Kyiv security forum “For Our and Your Freedom/ Fighting for NATO” will be held on May 25-26, 2023, with the participation of well-known international figures. In particular, at the Forum, the KSF Security Council will be formed and a policy document will be adopted with recommendations for the NATO summit in Vilnius to be held this July.
