UNHCR Representative in Ukraine, Pablo Mateu, believes that Ukraine should consider accepting more migrants and refugees. He spoke about this at the 7th Youth Kyiv Security Forum, organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
"In the near future you might find yourself needing people. Since a lot of Ukrainians move abroad, with time you might start needing people. So why not? Maybe in the future you too will share this burden and accept more refugees", – he said.
Mateu noted that right now there are 3, 2000 refugees in Ukraine, while the number of refugees and displaced persons in the world is 69.5 million. He added that accepting refuges would help fill out the Pension Fund, would add to the capable work force and would correspond with European values.
