Сultural fellowships program
The mini-grants program for artists is a part of the Cultural Horizons Program which aims to promote contemporary Ukrainian culture in the world.
The individual mini-grants program supports development of international exchanges of artists, strengthening contacts between Ukrainian and foreign participants to integrate contemporary Ukrainian culture into the world context. These grants intend to extend opportunities for Ukrainian participants to present their artistic works to the international community.
The program supports two types of activities
1. Presentation travel, which allows artists to present their work and Ukraine abroad;
2. Travel for professional development, enabling development of joint artistic projects and to establish new professional contacts outside their home region.
Awarded grants in 2009:
• Participation of Andriy Kurkov at Vilnius Book Fair
• Participation of Yulia Kosterova and Yuriy Kruchak at KulturKontakt Austria
• Participation of Nostri Temporis (Oleksiy Shmurak and Maksim Kolomiets) at New Academic Music Festival “Other Space” in Russian Federation
Lubko Deresh’s presentation of his book “Cult” in France (the book was publish under support of Open Ukraine Foundation)
• Evgenia Kononeko’s presentation of her collected stories in Russian Federation (the book was publish under support of Open Ukraine Foundation)
• Gallery RA's participation at international contemporary art fair ARTVILNIUS'09 (8-12 July, 2009)
Eligibility
- practicing young artist or art professionals;
- Ukrainian citizens are eligible for Presentation travel grants;
- Ukrainian citizens are eligible for Professional development grants to travel abroad;
- Foreign citizens are eligible for Professional development grants to travel to Ukraine.
Non-eligibility:
- groups
- folk bands, children amateur groups
- participation in scientific conferences
How to Apply
Applicants are required to submit:
- completed application form;
- a letter of invitation from the host organization;
- professional resume;
- portfolio.
For Presentation Travel Grant, applicants are required to submit additionally:
- description of the work they will be presenting;
- information about the festival or other venues they are planning to participate in;
- letter of recommendation.
Assessment
Applications will be assessed by the Open Ukraine Foundation Program Board. Applicants will be notified in writing about the results of the assessment after decision are made.
Assessment Criteria
- The importance of travel for development of the artist’s professional career;
- Expected impact of the event for promotion of Ukrainian contemporary art abroad;
- Professional level of the planned festival, conference, or other event;
- For the Presentation Travel Grant: professional level of the applicant or his/her work.
Deadline dates
There are no deadlines for this program. Applicants are strongly recommended to apply a minimum of four weeks in advance of their departure date. Completed applications must be submitted to the Cultural Horizons Program Manager by postal mail or e-mail. Applications for refund of travel already completed will not be accepted.
