Yuri Andrukhovych’s «Perverzion» was published in Spanish
Yuri Andrukhovych’s book «Perverzion» was published in Spanish by Akantilado Publishing House from Barcelona in the beginning of April 2012. Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation provided a grant out of its Book Fund Program for translation of this novel by the famous Ukrainian writer.
«I am very happy that such an initiative has appeared in Ukraine – to support translations of books by contemporary Ukrainian writers into foreign languages and cooperate with foreign publishing houses in this field. These are the projects aimed at the “conscience export”, which we have lacked much», Yuri Andrukhovych said.
Akantilado is a well-known publishing house, which books are best sellers not only in Spain, but also in many other Spanish-speaking countries with a large readers’ market (Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Columbia). «Perverzion» is already the 6th book by Yuri Andrukhovych that has been published by this publishing house. The 2000 copies of new edition will be distributed in the Spanish-speaking countries.
«And now thanks to the Open Ukraine Foundation a Spanish-speaking reader on several continents will be able to go deep in chimerical cobwebs of my novel», the famous Ukrainian writer mentioned.
It should be noted that the Open Ukraine Foundation is the only foundation in our country, which provides grants for translation of contemporary Ukrainian literature into foreign languages. During 2009-2011 the books by Ukrainian authors have been translated into Czech, Russian, Bulgarian, Polish, French and other languages. In particular, among the recent projects there was a novel «Voroshylovhrad» by Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan that was published in Hungarian language. This novel won «The BBC Book of the Year 2010» award. Last year the Bulgarian translation of Yuri Andrukhovych’s «Twelve rings» book was published. The Foundation also provided a grant for Polish translation of Vasyl Slapchuk’s novel «Woman From Snow», which is planned to be published shortly in May 2012.
