12.04.2012
With the support of Arseniy Yatseniuk Open Ukraine Foundation Anatoliy Lavrenyshyn has become a participant of 13th International Film Festival (Festival International du film d’Aubagne/France), that took place in Aubagne, France. His animation film “The White Crow” was presented at the official contest of short motion pictures together with other animation, fiction and documentary films from 22 countries.
«The White Crow» is the only Ukrainian film in the Festival program. This is also the first festival picture of Anatoliy Lavrenyshyn. The music for this film was written by Daga Gregorowicz and Michal Pospieszalski. They are participants of an Ukrainian-Polish music band – “DagaDana”. The sound was done by talented recording engineer Maria Nesterenko, who is known for her work in “Cross” film by Maryna Vroda, which got the second “Palme d'Or” for Ukraine at 2011 Festival de Cannes.
This year festival in France was special since it was devoted to music and sound in motion pictures. Therefore, attention was paid to originality of music and sound. Moreover, the main topics for meetings and master-classes were methods of cooperation of a director with a composer or sound engineer and director’s personal attitude to sound.
At the end of the festival Anatoliy Lavrenyshyn has mentioned: “Personally for me it was interesting to hear completely different views of my colleagues who shoot fiction and documentary films. By making only animated films I have my own production technology and that’s why it’s useful sometimes to hear a competent opinion regarding what’s going on in other types of cinema. I have met several composers and hopefully we will cooperate further for my other animated projects. I have already some work experience with foreign colleagues and so now I can extend this practice further”.
It is a reminder that as part of Cultural Horizons program the Open Ukraine Foundation continuously supports contemporary Ukrainian art. Particularly last year the Open Ukraine Foundation provided 10 travel grants to talented musicians, directors, artists for presenting their works abroad.
