Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey called on Diplomatic Club meeting

15.02.2008

On February 14, the Diplomatic Club held another informal meeting on foreign policy matters. This time the meeting was kindly attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mr. Ali Babacan.

Mr. Babacan stated that Turkey supports Ukraine in its efforts to join NATO with a Membership Action Plan. Mr. Babaсan emphasized the European aspirations of the Turkish state and stressed the active reforms of 2004-2005 stipulated for the implementation of European standards, despite Europe’s position regarding accession of Turkey into the EU. He alluded to the fact that the Turkish experience could serve as an example for Ukraine.

The informal discussions were highlighted by Ukrainian journalists covering international topics — Andriy Kulykov, Ihor Slisarenko, current and ex-politicians – Oleh Rybachuk, Anatoliy Zlenko, Yuriy Scherbak and independent experts on international relations — Oleksandr Potekhin, Oleksiy Haran and Valeriy Chaly, as well as other representatives of Ukrainian companies.
